I’m not going to talk about individual components or fixes, but the app as a whole. New features: Prefix Options – Now you can choose NO PREFIX or make a CUSTOM PREFIX for the context menu item text!!! Command Prompt Here – Way better than other mods offering this functionality; of course it opens a command prompt in the directory selected – but you can also select a file, and in Vista/7 it also appears […]
This applies to the Google Apps desktop extensions which provides (among other things) shortcuts to start your apps with Chrome in their own window. I use my Google Apps email as the default mail client. It shows up as my default client in the start menu, configured via Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Start menu > Customize > Show on Start Menu > Email: It quit working recently, on several machines. Perhaps something changed […]
Updated InstallContextMenus.exe inside this package to version 1.6: * add ability to optionally exclude extensions from being applied to directories * fixed a fairly serious usability oversight on my part, so now you wouldn’t need to remove extensions before reconfiguring them if they were already installed in a different configuration. The new v1.1 package can be installed without uninstalling the previous one. There will be no feature improvements, and should be no other bug fixes, […]
Ok, I previously had a similar package that only utilized GooG, and had no real install/configure/uninstall support. Well now I got all that and more… GooG functionality: Ever wanted to right click a file and select “Google It” from the available choices? How about simply double click a .DLL file to “Google It” when you don’t know what it is? Need more? Try to “Google It with Full Path” if you need more specific information. […]
(NEW) IsolateUserStartups is a tiny program intended for YOU to schedule to run at every user account logoff (via Group Policy or registry settings.) When run, it copies any new startup program entries placed in common areas (affecting all user accounts) to the local user account’s own startup area. This ensures that other user accounts on your computer don’t get bogged down with startup entries from programs that one user chooses to install, such as […]
Sure, everybody’s got them, for one reason or another. Maybe that pesky “do not import duplicates” check box seems to taunt you with failed promises. Who knows. But most people have run into this, right? Sure, there are apps out there, nothing free that I’ve found, but for $20-$50 you can buy a program to rid you of the duplicates, often they are even complicated with lots of duplicate finding criteria you’ll need to muddle […]
Wow! Make virtual hard disks of physical ones! Get it HERE. That will greatly simplify the existing process of creating a virtual hard disk and cloning to it, by either mounting it (real pain) or from inside a running virtual machine (still a hassle.) Of course they aren’t likely to release compatibility for a non-MS format, but at least can use MS VHD format in VirtualBox.
Any decent tech knows about Nirsoft utilities, but what a hassle downloading them all. Until recently, I had scripted a weekly FTP download with wget to download newer file versions to a network share on my server, unzip, and package them neatly to automatically sync to my flash drive and tech machines. Also, what a hassle sifting through over 100 utilities when it’s time to use one. Sometimes even remembering the file name of some […]
Norton Anti-Virus is always the cause, isn’t it? Got this message trying to browse a computer on my network. I can access the computer via UNC \computername or even IP address, but cannot access a share and permissions are all good. On the target machine I checked NetBIOS setting under WINS tab in network adapter > properties > TCP/IP > advanced. It is set to default, which uses the value assigned by the DHCP server. […]
Oops, it seems I forgot to offer the updated version of this app I created some time ago. The latest version utilizes a FAST method of getting system rights while maintaining the old method as a fail-safe, and also includes several common apps you might want in a drop down list.
