Founder and Developer - After over a dozen years "in the trenches" as a computer repair technician specializing in malware removal, I came to focus on a software development hobby. Initially I created tools to assist technicians like myself with the inefficient, repetitive, and mundane tasks PC techs face daily, in order to provide a far more efficient means of getting the job done. Later came an interest in using my development skills and tech experience for prevention of malware...

File this under “not surprised.” The Windows 10 Technical Preview just got a new update, so this morning of course it was nagging me to restart. After taking care of my VMs and open files I did the restart. I couldn’t wait to see how usable, or just plain laughable, this new Cortana thing is going to be. Well I really haven’t messed with it yet, but let me tell you what Windows 10 screwed up that was...
dSupportOnline/dMZ additional d7II downloads are now freely available to all d7II subscribers! As of now, the newer d7II default custom apps configurations and Ketarin profile are being pushed out to all d7II subscribers via d7II’s internal update mechanism. That isn’t all, however. There are also auto mode profiles, templates, whitelists, and more! While this content isn’t yet on the Foolish IT website, it has been made public in its current home on dSupportOnline’s website here.

#1 Question: Will this protect against new ‘Crypto’ malware such as CryptoDefense, CryptoWall, etc., and their newer v2, v3, and future variants? A number of new CryptoLocker clones have emerged that can also be prevented by CryptoPrevent. The majority of these are protected against by default protections with their older versions, but newer variants are coming out that can only be stopped by the Maximum Protection + Program Filtering (BETA) option, which uses a definitions based system to keep current with...

dFunk is the re-incarnation of MalwareScan, a utility which originally began life known as the original d7 – which had little to nothing to do with automating 3rd party utilities, but focused on registry and file system locations where ad/spy/malware would hide. d7/MalwareScan – now dFunk was created to assist the technician who MANUALLY removed viruses/malware, and MANUALLY cleaned up a system when finished. It wasn’t about 3rd party automation, but rather aggregation. The automation...
I’ve done so much work on this app, it deserved a new name! Basically I’m rewriting the code bit by bit, and redesigning the interface from scratch, not just bringing it up to the same appearance as d7II, which is an incredible improvement, but also bringing new functionality to the user interface. New functionality includes search filters for scan results, automatic file details with virustotal.com results in a pop out window that doesn’t rob real-estate...
CryptoPrevent v7.3.x brings some new features, more clarity on protection levels, and improved protection! First, CryptoPrevent now supports SSL/TLS encryption and StartTLS for your SMTP server settings! This enables support for a wider variety of SMTP servers, allowing users requiring this level of encryption to configure their email alert functionality. Previously only SSL was supported. Second, CryptoPrevent’s experimental “Program Filtering” has reached BETA status. Program Filtering compares executable files to a hash based definitions...
News regarding any d7II config that exists to update Emsisoft a2cmd: a2cmd’s update function doesn’t appear to work half of the time lately. It is unknown if it is an a2cmd program or a Emsisoft server issue, but this is beside the point, because… currently the a2cmd program zip file contains the latest Emsisoft definitions, so it is always up to date. d7II’s new default apps config file for “Emsisoft a2cmd Full Scan” (and...
