v25.11.19.0 Release Notes General Additions and Fixes: Added Info drop down menu next to options, containing links to the Release Notes as well as the new Documentation page on the website. Release Notes links currently resolve to a blog category for all Uncle Carey’s software news, so they may contain occasional posts for other Uncle Carey’s software. Added post-update prompt to open the Release Notes on the website. Added a total disk space freed message...
My apologies for the long post, but it’s all directly related to the live stream and (in the interest of full transparency) I’m combining multiple releases with a good story time on why those releases were necessary and lessons learned. I also tend to be detail oriented and long-winded about it, so please feel free to skim. A quick note on version numbers and release dates, to give you a better timeline of events. The...
Uncle Carey’s Windows 11 Optimizer was conceived by Carey Holzman and developed by d7xTech.com to make life easier when optimizing Windows 10. Carey originally contacted us to create a tool for Windows 10, customized to his own specifications for his use in PC builds and repair work, and we learned from his subscribers who expressed an interest it was a great tool for them as well. With Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 ending on October 14th, we knew...
v23.5.3.0 Fixed an issue sending email with Office 365 SMTP authentication failing, which can be due to an external firewall. Added support for incorrect configurations with Office 365 in particular, as well as any email provider, where CryptoPrevent will auto-correct settings on failure and retry sending email several times with different or suggested settings depending on the specific failure. Removed “Test Protection” button on Windows 11 22H2 (and future versions) as it is no longer...
Resolved an issue where DataGrab would backup everything except your selected user accounts under certain circumstances. Fixed a double “Backup Complete” prompt when DataGrab completes.
Resolved an issue with the “Reset Networking” and “Repair Winsock” (Proceed with Defaults option) on Windows 10 and 11 that caused several issues with the OS after reboot when running the repair from Windows Safe Mode.
Resolved an issue with the “Set Time Zone” feature on Windows 11 that was causing Explorer.exe to crash constantly after time zone was changed. Note this same issue appeared in our Tweaky app, and was also resolved in Tweaky v22.8.5.2. Updated Windows service repairs for recent updates to Windows (up to Windows 11 version 22H2.)
UPDATE: this issue has been resolved in d7x v22.8.9 and Tweaky v22.8.5.2. Currently there is an issue with the “Set Time Zone” feature of both d7x and Tweaky on the latest builds of Windows 11, causing Explorer.exe to constantly restart (even after reboot.) The easy (and currently the only known) fix is to use System Restore. Please do not use this feature on Windows 11 until we can resolve the issue. We’ll make another post...
It appears that d7x was not applying hidden file and file extension preferences properly during End Session under some circumstances, which should now be fixed. Also, an issue not yet resolved: it seems that d7x’s ability to refresh the desktop to show these file changes is not working in the latest build of Windows 10, and as of yet there is no resolution. As a result, when starting d7x for the first time (or after...
Added Microsoft OneDrive integration for d7x Reports storage (see the d7x Config > Reports > OneDrive Integration tab.) Please see the manual (at the link above) for all considerations prior to using this functionality. OneDrive integration was added as a convenience to those who would rather use it over Google Drive, but we would like to recommend that most people should consider Google Drive integration instead, for several reasons (particularly if you have multiple technicians...
