Microsoft finally makes the WHS SOHO case… and more?
‘bout time. Windows Home Server really is about the sweetest thing for a <10 computer office. I’ve been wanting to pitch this to several of my clients who have around 5 computer offices and are running 2000 or 2003 boxes for no good reason other than their last IT ppl convinced them to buy, who need only a centralized file share and a good backup solution.
Something I’ve ignored to this point, is a few weeks ago I was sent info on the Microsoft webcast available here (I think you gotta be involved with the MS Partner program to access it) which convinces you of not only the same thing, but also to use WHS as a complement to small business server in companies with however many workstations, using WHS for that nightly image of the “top employees” or executives workstations…. hmm, I dunno about that.
I think now they are just trying to compete WHS against Acronis. Not a good idea, M$. Not unless you gut unneeded WHS tech, add the ability to join an existing domain, remove the 10 computer limit, and FIX THE DAMN WAKE UP/STANDBY LOOP ISSUE with many laptops and the WHS client connector.
So yeah, on second thought I could hardly sell WHS to any business, SOHO or otherwise, or even a home for that matter, who expect their laptops to work with WHS……..
